These are the things you can expect in the stores with the onset of the Chinese New Year which gives people a valid excuse to go shopping for new stuff.

Those who make safe choices are never neglected so feminine pastels are in abundance. This time there’s a mix of global flavour as patterns display a global mix, such as Chinese florals with African motifs. For classic white, earthen tones or pastel hues check out brands like Hermes, Bottega Veneta, Valentino and Chloe, which have a choice of wearable classics, as well as the occasional primary-coloured outfit.
Hermes bucks the season’s overall fluid, flowing look with more structured outfits such as Nehru collars and Safari jackets. If it’s a formal spring/summer look you’re looking for, then toga and sari-inspired evening dresses reflecting the season’s bold colours. For those who like hand-drawn patterns, illustrations on fabric are huge this season, as can be seen from Lanvin. Meanwhile, Prada is big on organza this season and silk with dresses printed with fairy, and oriental-fantasy like collars. If Prada has gone fairy tale, sister label Miu Miu has gone theatrical – think tutu skirts and French maid costumes.
As for men’s fashion has always meant casual wear. Dunhill is radiating the trail with vivid green and tangerine orange, pairing these colours with more neutral classic brown and blue. Gucci has its men in checks, while Louis Vuitton’s Menswear takes its inspiration from the decadent beach life of the 1920s.
