Sabyasachi: the powerhouse of fashion!!!
“History repeats itself”… but for Sabyasachi Mukherjee it seems to be a source of inspiration with every upcoming fashion show. He started his career with the LIFW in 2002, and since then this NIFT Kolkata graduate didn’t have to look back. With the fashion statement that “dared to be different”, he earned himself rave reviews from the national and international press.
Sabyasachi believes that “fashion” is “an extension of one’s intellect” and his collections reek of his understanding of life at different phases. Be it the “Neo Romantic Frog Princess” line, the “Tortured and Distressed” collection, the “Nizamiyat” collection for weddings, or the “Indianised” Milan collection, Pepsi, as he is commonly called among friends, feels that his creations have universal appeal. And his idea is true to the T, for even Sanjay Leela Bhansali settled for this twenty-eight year old designer to dress up Rani Mukherjee and Amitabh Bachchan for BLACK.
An internship in London, followed by recognition from the Tony boutiques in India, Sabyasachi has now become a label that retails in Carma , Ogaan, Melange, Ensemble, Espee, Intrigue, Origins and Oorja. He is known for the difference he creates and the way he presents his perception. This man has taken everyone by awe by making “Deserts”, “Gypsies”, “Prostitutes”, and “Victorian Outlook” the theme of his displays. Who would say that this powerhouse of talent at one point in his life had sold junk jewellery to roadside shops?
Sabyasachi has come a long way, and he has an even longer path to tread.
