Universal appeal for – Darsheel Safary and TZP

Nearly everyone has seen the much talked about ‘Taare Zameen Par’ by now. It is no doubt an excellent film. It explores relationships on many levels- that between a child and his parents, between a child and his teacher, and between a child and his own special needs.

Aamir Khan’s directing is brilliant, his acting even more so, and while many other actors might have tried to focus the limelight on themselves, he has let the movie focus on Darsheel Safary, who plays the troubled boy Ishaan. Darsheel is a wonder- he pulls at your heartstrings at the sad moments, makes you laugh at the funny ones, and makes you smile at the happy ones.
The movie subtly attacks the education system too, criticizing its inability to recognize individual needs and correct them.

TZP has universal appeal- drawing audiences from all age groups ranging from 7 to 70. A movie about a child with special needs, but talented in his own right- it makes us all realize that each child has his or own individual world, which we must always strive to understand, and not dismiss as immature or even stupid.
Basabdatta Basu, a second year student of B.Com, has seen the movie four times, and wouldn’t mind watching it again. She says, “Taare Zameen Par is a constant reminder to us that each child is special- we just need to tune in to their individual needs to realize it.”
