Halla Bol

Bollywood 02/02/2008

Halla Bol is a Hindi film directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, starring Ajay Devgan, Pankaj Kapur, Vidya Balan and Darshan Jariwala in the main cast. The story revolves around the film industry and the social evils that haunt the Indian society today. The plot has been deftly crafted and managed by the director, and a coalition of some important scenes makes a mark on the viewers’ minds and sends home the message the film wants to portray. Scenes like the ones where Pankaj Kapur’s reaction is mapped when he is offered bribe, Ajay Devgan urinating on the carpet at the minister’s house are some of the best etched scenes of the film. Dialogues are stable and good and helps make the plot compact. The cinematography and the music by Sukhwinder are also noteworthy.

The director has successfully made a film that makes the viewer sit up and take notice of the rampant corruption and social evils in the state today. Powerhouse performances by Ajay Devgan, Darshan Jariwala and Pankaj Kapur back up the film to make it a projection of a tool that urges people to take a stand against evil.
Halla Bol though has its share of problems too. The climax is a little in-your-face and abrupt for the whole plot. But all in all, a brilliant film that has the fire-power to charge up the state’s docile populace to take a stand against ongoing evil and corrupt actions in the society. A must watch for the socially conscious and active citizen.
