Sonal Chauhan in Jannat

Bollywood 19/09/2008

Sonal Chauhan is a model who was discovered and launched by “NewIndianModels” and this was her debut film. ‘Jannat’ which is the latest to be offered by the Bhatt camp is directed by Kunal Deshmukh who in this film has tried to blend reality with the reel. Emraan Hashmi who is back to films after taking quite a long gap, and the female lead is played by model turned actress “Sonal Chauhan” in the lead.

The story of the movie revolves around ‘Arjun’ or Emraan Hashmi and ‘Zoya’ or Sonal Chauhan. Arjun is interested in making more and more money to keep his girlfriend Zoya happy and give whatever she wants. He soon lands up being bookie then a match-fixer from a gambler. He shifts his base from India to South Africa; the girlfriend is unaware about his work status.

The film deals with matching fixing and betting in cricket but the director makes it a point not to refer to something real. The film is like getting told a story which one already knows. The work of the debut director is quite impressive and the Bhatt camp has been able to go away nicely with another serious plots. The story of the movie is well told, but the pace is quite slow at times. The locales of Cape Town have been captured well by the cinematographer Manoj Soni. Director has well executed the betting world of cricket. The music of the film which is given by Pritam fares well and the songs are melodious specially ‘Zara Sa’. Performance wise, Emraan has given a fair performance neither very good nor very bad, and it is a courageous effort for the model turned actress Sonal Chauhan. We wish Sonal Chauhan all the best for her career.
